Use the right products
Every paint problem must be approached with care and safety in mind - especially if the surface you are working with may contain lead or absestos. From protective clothing and equipment - including googles and respirators - to testing and following correct procedures, all are important for guarding and preserving your home.
Scraping or sanding surfaces of older buildings (especially pre-1978) may release dust containing lead or absestos. EXPOSURE TO LEAD OR ABSESTOS CAN BE VERY HAZARDOUS TO YOUR HEALTH. Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment during surface preparation and finish clean-up of any residue by water-washing all surfaces. For more information call EPA's National Lead Information center at 1-800-424-LEAD, or visit www.epa.gov/lead or www.epa.gov/asbestos, or contact your state or local Health Department.
